these not so common profile corruptions are most likely due to crashes
while firefox wants to write content in your profile. Mainly the
following two bugs:

  1. firefox crashes on instant X shutdown (e.g. if you leave X without closing firefox first)
  2. firefox goes nuts when running during upgrade (this might cause any hazard to your profile that you can imagine. However, its unlikely, but it can make severe damage.)

Both bugs are hard bugs to solve, but both are well known.

Since your profile is gone i close this issue now.
