Just a thought.

I installed VMware Server beta 2 and it needed root to work.
It uses Firefox as root to launch VMware Infrastructure Web access to
perform host and virtual machine configuration.
I have noticed no problems and the file does regenerate upon starting up firefox.
It is a text file only.
