Hi,

I have exactly the same symptoms. It does not matter what page is loaded
in firefox or whether the safe-mode is on or not, the cpu and disk
trashing starts in a minute or two after firefox is launched. Firefox
becomes unresponsive and closing it takes about ten seconds. Once
closed, cpu and disk calm down.

This problem started to occur a few days ago...

My versions are:
firefox 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
xulrunner-1.9 1.9~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
