Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Specs:
Description: Ubuntu 7.10
Release: 7.10
Application: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080418 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.14
Package installed: 2.0.0.14+2nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.10

What i expected to happen:
When i browsed two websites this morning, clicking the links on the left should have navigated to their respective pages.
These websites are:
http://www.virtualbox.org/
http://planet.banshee-project.org/

What actually happened:
after clicking the link, the application looks like it is connecting to the internet, and downloading the next new page. it updates the window title, and the addressbar URL, but the webpage content remains unchanged.

this problem appears to have started after installing the latest update
to FireFox pushed through the ubuntu automatic updates system.
