I have been trying to download:
http://prefetch.googlecode.com/files/linux-image-2.6.22.1-9pf.3_2.6.22-9pf.3_i386.deb

I tried several times with Firefox 3 and each time the connection closed
(without any option to resume) as if the file were 5MB, 10MB etc.

wget handles this much better:
$ wget http://prefetch.googlecode.com/files/linux-image-2.6.22.1-9pf.3_2.6.22-9pf.3_i386.deb
