Is it time for someone to clearify things so we do not get more bugspam?

This bug has nothing to do with the size or format of your images. That is just symptoms.
The bugs is a xorg bug (linked at the top of this page, "RenderComposite with XAA renders at wrong position if vertically scaled.").

So a "easy" workaround is making your driver use EXA (if it supports it) or hope for a fix to xorg soon.
Me myself seems to have to wait, since the sis videodriver supports EXA but kills X when it is enabled in funny ways.
