Alexander,  I performed the following (please let me know if I did
something incorrectly)

1.  renamed .asoundrc and .ascoundrc.asoundconf to .asoundrc.backup and .asoundrc.asoundconf.backup
2.  verified I have the libasound2-plugins package installed
3.  added the following repositories using synaptic

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/crimsun/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/crimsun/ubuntu intrepid main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ubuntu intrepid main

4.  executed sudo apt-get upgrade, 5 packages were upgraded
5.  restarted my computer

Still no sound in flash.  I verified Rhythmbox still plays audio.
