It appears to be a known and reported issue with the Google Toolbar team
in regards to x64 bit Linux systems. Google reports:

"Please note that the Toolbar doesn't currently support 64-bit systems.
Some users have resolved this issue by installing an official build of
Mozilla Firefox from http://www.getfirefox.com"
