Hmm - the hooks for me read like this (extract from
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf):

@hooks [
        {
                func load
                files [
                        "/usr/share/alsa/pulse.conf"
                        "/usr/share/alsa/bluetooth.conf"
                        "/etc/asound.conf"
                        "~/.asoundrc"
                ]
                errors false
        }
]

I would assume this order meant that pulse[-alsa].conf overrides any
user-set configuration, which to me seems sub-optimal.

My ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf is attached, and ~/.asoundrc is as default
(only importing ..asoundconf).
