You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am running ubuntu 8.04.1 and my problem is: I can not play audio files
after opening an internet radio, and I can not open any internet radio
after playing an audio file. I can play along audio files and youtube
files, though, but not youtube and internet radios (the same problems as
with audio files). My browser of preference is Mozilla Firefox, and the
programs in which I have seen the problem are: Audacious, Amarok,
Banshee, Movie player, MPlayer, Muine Music Player, Rhythmbox.

My workaround was: listed the pocesses running ("ps -e" command), than
killed the processes with the mplayer listed in the CMD column (there
were two or three occurences), with the command: "sudo kill <pid1>
<pid2> [<pid3>]" (of course, I replaced <pidn> with the real process
identifiers listed).

I will say that is a problem in one of the programs involving audio
playback, as it seems that the processes are not freed up after playing
an audio file or stream.
