Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xulrunner-1.9
Hi!
Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty appear to have a longstanding missing-
dependencies bug in their xulrunner-1.9 package and its Python-related
XPCOM libraries that cause errors like this one, associated with
Firefox:
"Failed to load XPCOM component:
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.7/components/libpyloader.so"
When the dependency-checking utility run-mozilla.sh is executed against
libpyloader.so it reports being unable to find libxpcom.so, libxul.so,
and libpyxpcom.so, despite the actual presence of those files on the
system.
I documented this very fully two weeks ago at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/65595 , and asked for
help filing a bug report, but nobody replied at all. ( Maybe that
request was too verbose for people to take interest in? I wanted to be
thorough, but probably included too much info there for people to be
willing to wade through it. )
So I thought I'd better go ahead and file a bug report myself, despite
not really feeling confident-enough in my Linux/Mozilla/Ubuntu/Python
understanding to do so.
This isn't just a problem on my system, btw. Other users obtain the
same “missing dependencies” result when they execute run-mozilla.sh on
their systems.
Perhaps a triager can reformulate this report into terms that will be
more helpful to a developer?
thanks so much,
- ami
