The same issue happened to me yesterday with Firefox 3.0.11 and a fully updated Hardy. 
At time I updated firefox I also upgraded my kernel so I restarted the system with the "restart icon" in the notify area. To be honest I thought the issue of the light bulb, that still remains in the notify area after reboot, was related to the combination of kernel and firefox update (plus, also, the restart made via the icon and not via the "usually" way, that is through the shutdown button) as I didn't realize, before yesterday, about this bug when I updated firefox in the past.
