Re-hello,

I had some extra package sources in my system. I removed all unnecessary sources by using the 
$ sudo software-properties-gtk  # it's also in the admin menu.

Then listed and removed all Firefox versions from this installation
$ dpkg -l | grep firefox
$ sudo aptitude remove firefox-3.x

Then reinstalled firefox 3.5
$ sudo aptitude install firefox-3.5

It installed Ok. It also works quite well.
Only ceavet is that it does not show my bookmarks from Firefox 3.0 and 
the search field has no search engines (the engine list is blank). I need to browse to Google.com and search there.
But I can live with that.

I think you should close this bug.
