Just to clarify something: the strong response is not because this
feature "touches areas we use for our daily work". It is because the
lack of 'features' like this is why we love Ubuntu in the first place.
This is Ubuntu; I do not expect it to act like windows malware. The
strong response is because, quite frankly, this addition is like a worm
in a peach. I have lived with worse usability regressions in Ubuntu, but
I will not put up with such an anti-user, pro-corporation move. This is
not the Ubuntu way.
