You can select thunderbird from edit>preferences>applications
Select the content type "Web feed", and from the action combo box select "Use other...".
On the location text field, enter /usr/bin/thunderbird

I think this is not a bug. Does this solve your problem?
If it doesn't, please add a comment with the steps to reproduce the issue.
