Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnash
As of today, Maverick saw the addition of a newer gnash package that
force-replaces swfdec-mozilla with the gnash equivalent.
This is extremely undesirable!
While I realize that swfdec hasn't been updated in ages and doesn't work
on sites that require Flash 9 or 10, its Mozilla plug-in has one
essential feature that gnash doesn't have: it doesn't automatically load
itself. The end result is that with gnash now having replaced swfdec,
loading Firefox literally takes hours (I kid you not!) while it only
took a couple of minutes with swfdec-Mozilla as the flash plug-in. This
is a serious issue that hampers usability! As such, I would appreciate
if Ubuntu reversed Debian's changes for the swfdec transition and leave
the real swfdec packages alone.
