I agree, the same bug of Thunderbird slowing down affected me too right
after upgrading from Lucid to  Ubuntu Meerkat 10.10, it causes my system
to freeze intermittently and hogs a lot of CPU.

I disabled most addons and still found the bug to persist.

Its become so annoying that I am considering moving from Thunderbird to
Evolution, I really hope someone fixes this soon.
