** Description changed:

  in thunderbird ver 8, when I go to tools> import> filters then next ...
  and he asks me what type of file you want to import and there is nothing
  to display ... for any type of import

+ I encountered the same problem with an OEM install on a new (< one week) PC. Ubuntu 12.04 Had converted Eudora/Mac to Linux/MBOX and TBird couldn't see them in import. What I found was, TBird reads MBOX directly, and copying into the right directory solved the problem. The real issue was documentation, since everything I found said convert and then import.
