My configuration : thunderbird and thunderbird-locale-fr packages.
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

Step to reproduce :
- use  thunderbird in your local language normally
- do the updates normally when update-manager appears
- start/restart thunderbird => it will check for extensions compatibility
=> Folders appear in english (inbox, drafts, templates, sent, archives, junk, trash, outbox). Other parts are in my local language (french)
- start/restart thunderbird => Folders appear in my local language
