This problem still exists.

Even though I have the correctly-installed language pack, there are still issues with Firefox's English-US browser.  It still favors British spelling, for example.  I found a post about this with a solution:

I have not yet installed the fully localized version of firefox, but it
seems that we need this in order to get rid of the constant wrong-
language problem.
