I was thinking about the club run this weekend, making a list so I don't forget anything important. It's become a bit of a routine, Saturday morning with a big coffee, checking the pantry and the freezer. The key is to note what's actually low, not just what sounds good. Last time I went in for paper towels and chicken, and came out with a new garden hose and a giant bag of oranges. Not that the oranges were a bad choice, they were delicious, but the hose is still in the garage, unopened. I need to stick to the list.
My neighbor mentioned she does her big shop on Tuesday evenings, says it's quieter. I might try that shift. Saturday can feel a bit like a social event, which is nice sometimes, seeing familiar faces in the aisles, but other times you just want to get in and out. The midweek approach could be more efficient. She plans her meals for the whole fortnight, which seems ambitious. I usually plan for the week ahead, and even that requires a fair bit of mental energy. Do I want salmon or pork Are we having people over It's a puzzle.
The produce section is always a highlight. The quality is consistently good, and buying in larger quantities makes sense for our household. You just have to have a plan for it all. I've learned that berries need to be eaten quickly or frozen, whereas apples and citrus last. Bell peppers get chopped and stored in containers for easy cooking. It's a small bit of prep work after the trip that saves a lot of time during the week. I usually put on some music and deal with it all while putting everything away. It makes the kitchen feel organized and ready.
Then there's the non-food items. It's easy to overlook how often you need things like laundry detergent or dishwasher pods until you're nearly out. I try to keep a running note on my phone for those staples, so when I see a good value, I can pick up an extra. Storage space is the only real limit. Finding a place for a bulk pack of paper plates or a case of sparkling water requires a bit of Tetris in the utility room. But it's worth it to not have to make extra trips to other stores during the week. It consolidates the errands into one major outing.
I appreciate that the layout is generally predictable. Once you know where your regular items are, you can navigate pretty directly. Though they do move things around occasionally, I suppose to highlight new products. It keeps it interesting. I always allow a little extra time for browsing the center aisles, the ones with the special buys. You never know what you might find—a new kitchen tool, a set of towels, sometimes a book. It's part of the experience, that element of discovery alongside the practical stock-up. It feels productive and a little bit like an adventure, all before lunchtime.
We value your membership and your time. Thank you for considering this feedback opportunity.
