Hi Bruce - thats what I ended up doing.
Does gnome usually load the window list on first clean install??
Seems weird that after the upgrade it disappeared and you had to manually re-add
it to the bar!!
I also had this happen to me in 7.04 once - but that solved itself after the 3
re-boot!
Not this time though
Anyhow - it is now all sorted and i have to remember this for the next time

You've probably just lost your 'window list' so they're there but you
just can see them. Right-click on an empty part to the side of the
lower panel, choose 'add to panel' and add Window List again.
