Public bug reported:
The `python3-pylxd` package currently shipped in Ubuntu (version 2.2.10)
is severely outdated and does not support modern LXD features, notably
VM support introduced in January 2020 (LXD 3.19 – see
https://discuss.linuxcontainers.org/t/lxd-3-19-has-been-released/6529)
and projects.
This package version has been carried unmodified across Ubuntu releases
from Focal through Plucky. Ubuntu is unlikely to receive a newer version
by sync'ing with Debian as the package was removed in early 2025 (see
https://bugs.debian.org/1091918 and
https://tracker.debian.org/news/1600652/removed-2210-4-from-unstable/).
Upstream (the LXD team at Canonical) recommends that users install
`pylxd` using `pip`, or directly from the GitHub repository at
https://github.com/canonical/pylxd to ensure compatibility with current
LXD features and APIs.
Maintaining this outdated package in Ubuntu creates confusion and a
degraded experience for users expecting full functionality with modern
LXD setups.
Request:
Please remove the `python3-pylxd` package from the Ubuntu archive in
future releases to avoid promoting an obsolete and misleading
implementation.
** Affects: python-pylxd (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
