Title:
Please remove python3-pylxd from Ubuntu 25.10
Status in python-pylxd package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
The `python3-pylxd` package currently shipped in Ubuntu (version
2.2.10) is severely outdated and does not support modern LXD features,
notably VM support introduced in January 2020 (LXD 3.19 – see
https://discuss.linuxcontainers.org/t/lxd-3-19-has-been-released/6529)
and projects.
This package version has been carried unmodified across Ubuntu
releases from Focal through Plucky. Ubuntu is unlikely to receive a
newer version by sync'ing with Debian as the package was removed in
early 2025 (see https://bugs.debian.org/1091918 and
https://tracker.debian.org/news/1600652/removed-2210-4-from-
unstable/).
Upstream (the LXD team at Canonical) recommends that users install
`pylxd` using `pip`, or directly from the GitHub repository at
https://github.com/canonical/pylxd to ensure compatibility with
current LXD features and APIs.
Maintaining this outdated package in Ubuntu creates confusion and a
degraded experience for users expecting full functionality with modern
LXD setups.
Request:
Please remove the `python3-pylxd` package from the Ubuntu archive in
future releases to avoid promoting an obsolete and misleading
implementation.
The binary and source packages should be removed:
```
src:python-pylxd
bin:python-pylxd-doc
bin:python3-pylxd
```
and they have no reverse deps:
```
$ apt-cache rdepends python3-pylxd python-pylxd-doc
python3-pylxd
Reverse Depends:
python-pylxd-doc
Reverse Depends:
```
