Dear All,
I am configuring a Linux Samba(file) server and most of the users is using Windows XP and some Windows 2000 to access samba. Without changing log-in in Windows OS (usually it is username would be Administrator in our company) or changing to share security; how could I make an easy transition. I have created a username or a linux account the users(in our company) their firstname plus lastnames. I have configured the Samba server as the WINS server or master browser. Most of the users would be on the local LAN. Hostnames of Win OS are varied like adminpc, bench, frontdesk etc. All of the servers are linux (DNS, Mail etc.) No LDAP or Kerberos server configured. I think.(?) Most of the users have customized their desktop so if I'm gonna change their log-in names; it would be much conflict with the people. Or is there a better way to this? Using Windows Server is NOT an option. My boss doesn't believe in Windows Server. Sorry guys, I came from Windows Server Administration whe
re
security on the our LAN is lax.(we use share level file sharing access.) Of course, accessing the Win Server is another story. Could anyone help me out on this, please?
I hope i give you enough info.
Hoping,
Daniel
