You should first get an IRC client. One popular application is
XChat[1]. You may install it via synaptic or aptitude, etc. Look for
the xchat package. Configuration may vary for different IRC clients
but in general, what you need to do is:

1. Set the IRC server to: irc.freenode.net
2. Set your IRC nickname
3. Connect to the IRC server
4. Join the #ubuntu-ph channel. You may type "/j #ubuntu-ph" once you
are connected to freenode.
