Grab gcc using synaptic.

GCC is the standard C compiler on Linux (Ubuntu and other distros).
And, I don't get what you mean by "none ... in th[e] repository".
Doing an 'apt-cache search c compiler' gives me 397 package names, and
narrowing it down you can see:

% apt-cache search c compiler | grep "C compiler"
gcc - The GNU C compiler
gcc-3.3 - The GNU C compiler
gcc-3.4 - The GNU C compiler
gcc-4.0 - The GNU C compiler
...

Same goes for a synaptic search.
