Why do you use Unity?

Natty is an amazing release BUT for Unity. It's so much snappier than
Maverick and has a number of nifty updates. But I admit, I was quite
heartbroken when I first upgraded, first with a horribly glitchy upgrade,
and then by Unity's stubbornness against being customised. The Launcher is
decent, but horribly ugly, and with terribly thought out, ordinarily
ironclad presets. The icons are humongous, and crap like removable devices,
Places, Applications, etc are placed on it. If you add three applications,
you're already looking at folded launchers (which look horrible btw). I've
removed some of these things via Terminal commands I found on the net, and
added some Quicklists of my own, but the Launcher still looks like a
half-baked application that is frustratingly hardcoded. My friend and I have
recommended Ubuntu to a few people recently, but we both recommend Maverick,
and not Natty because it is far, FAR simpler to use.

The Dash has functionality, but puzzlingly, it does its utmost to hide the
fact. Why are Internet and Media applications given a place as categories,
while the others aren't? Why does it take so many clicks to get somewhere?
As I pointed out in another thread, typing in "resolution" into the Dash
does throw up Monitors, but how is a user supposed to know that? There is no
SPACE for Settings, because all these settings managers are individual
applications buried deep under More Apps.

I have stuck to Unity mainly because, as a power user, I can get it to work
(mostly) the way I want, and I want to keep my trust in Ubuntu. Linux is
about choice, and no one will deride me for switching to, say, Mint or
elementary, but I want to stay with the people who made Linux wonderful for
me, and are putting in so much effort to making the computing experience
faster, prettier, better. Oneiric doesn't have to be everything I wish it
will be, but I hope to see a lot of subtle changes, and greater
customisability out of the box. If not, well, I have the latest Linux Mint
ISO.
