Rob, it IS possible to change the size of the icons in the Unity launcher.
You need to install Compiz Config Settings Manager (ccsm), and change it in
the Ubuntu Unity Plugin. I must say that the default size is absolutely mad,
especially given that mounted devices appear there. Reducing the size and
removing mounted devices from appearing there is the only way that work can
be done.
