Please file a bug on the linux package "ubuntu-bug linux" and then attach sound 
debugging info to it with "apport-collect -p alsa-base <bug number>"  This is 
a common symptom, but it affects many different pieces of hardware, so this'll 
get information on exactly what hardware is affected in this case.
