Hi:
I was able to set a higher resolution, following this steps:
sudo cvt -v 1280 960 60
sudo xrandr --newmode "1280x960_60.00" 101.25 1280 1360 1488 1696 960
963 967 996 -hsync +vsync
sudo xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1280x960_60.00
xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1280x960_60.00
Same method was tried with 1680 1050 50 ... but there was no luck.
This has been a good help:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution/#Dynamically_testing_different_resolutions
Now, I need to identify how to make this change permanent, I've readed
about .xconfig, but not so sure if it will work...
Is this still valid https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/MonitorDetection ?
Now i need to reboot again to see if it worked!
Cheers ;-)

which it's a headache itself... plus a Samsung syncMaster 2232BW . native
resolution with proper drivers is 1680x1050.

change resolution to anything higher than 1024x768 , whilst in earlier LTS
ubuntu I was able to work with native resolution 1680x1050 .

early release? Yesterday i already added the hw to the wiki page , last
entry, authored as beats.
I'm open to provide as much details as needed (not too much spare time, but
it's under my current priorities to fix this, so I will follow-up...)
