Turn GDM's locale selector into a country/region specific language
selector:
- Do not set the LANG variable, but leave that to package
  language-selector.
- Check whether the first value in the LANGUAGE priority list
  corresponds with the language/country combination selected in
  the greeter.
- If not: update LANGUAGE, set LC_MESSAGES and edit ~/.profile
