Thanks for working on this, however for this to be fixed in Trusty we will need to follow the Stable Release Update procedure. You can learn more about it at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates. Basically, you'll need to report a bug about this issue, ideally add a bug watch for the upstream debian bug, create a test case for the bug, update debian/changelog with a reference to the bug you reported in the format (LP: #1234), and that should be about it.
