to follow up, I do plan to push these changes into ubuntu-dev-tools, but first I plan to:

1. get accepted as ubuntu core-dev
2. create unit tests for pull-* functionality

Hopefully I can get #2 done in the next few months; I have no idea how long #1 will take.

Until then, my ppa:ddstreet/ubuntu-dev-tools will remain up to date with my changes.
