As indicated in dpkg terminal log, you failed to produce a valid
smb.conf using the experimental 3-way merge (which is quite
experimental):

Conflicts found! Please edit `/etc/samba/smb.conf' and sort them out
manually.

 The file `/etc/samba/smb.conf.ucf-new' has a record of the failed merge
of the configuration file.

Sorting the conflicts manually and re-run the update should fix the
issue for you. I'm closing this bug, please reopen it if the issue
persists.
