[Bug 420639] Re: php-pear package problems (Karmic)

I was able to reproduce this:

Setting up php-pear (5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu4) ...
chuck at kenny:~/work/server/samba/samba-3.4.1$ sudo pear -vv install Net_FTP
pear.php.net is using a unsupported protocal - This should never happen.
Cannot initialize 'channel://pear.php.net/Net_FTP', invalid or missing package file
Package "channel://pear.php.net/Net_FTP" is not valid
install failed

I might have a fix for this bug.
