gah .. that should have been "I've attached the  /etc/samba/smb.conf

Also my language settings ..
$ env | grep LANG
LANG=en_NZ.UTF-8
GDM_LANG=en_NZ.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_NZ.UTF-8
