I don't know if the user was there before or not. I tried to remember
how to find the user, but could not, so went into the process of
installing and reinstalling.

In case it helps, I do not recall getting any error messages when I created the user doing this:
sudo adduser --system --no-create-home --disabled-password --disabled-login --shell /bin/false --group --home
