Is it a problem you also experienced using previous versions of samba ?
Unfortunately, we installed the server, then ran a full update upgrading us to the current version. 
This is our new main fileserver.

For a given document, does it always fail ?

Doesnt fail, but takes 30-60 seconds to open depending on the file
(small simple documents). All other samba functions (browsing, etc) is
working fine and at normal speed. This has been observed over the entire
network (around 24 workstations)

Do you confirm that accessing the same document from a Linux client
works ok ?

Actually, after checking the error also occurs for linux, but there is no speed issue. All files open at normal speed.
I am attaching part of the log file from a windows workstation. I will followup with the linux log (which looks the same)
