Right, I'm not sure the error you get in the logs (in both cases) is
related to the slowness (which you only experience with Windows
clients). Those multibyte sequences that the samba server sends errors
about might also be the cause of a client-side issue in Windows.

Are you able to share those documents between Windows workstations
without issues ? Would you have a non-confidential document that you
could attach to this bug that would exhibit the issue ?
