I've checked and there don't appear to be any symlinks on the way to /var/lib/backuppc/pc or /var/lib/backuppc/cpool:

dcastelow at pktdcastelow2:/var/lib/backuppc/cpool$ ls -l
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 3 root root 0 2011-07-06 14:08 testb
