This is definitely regressed.

$ dpkg-query --show maas
maas    1.6.0+bzr2545-0ubuntu1~ppa1
$ maas admin maas get-config name=kernel_opts
"console=hvc0"


there, i booted a new node that dhcp'd and booted from my maas.  I see nothing, and then a console login saying:
Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS maas-enlisting-node hvc0
