No one ever said anything pointing in that direction!

Agreed, but no argument against my proposal.

Don't understand that point neither. Just add commented pointers in `main.cf` & Co. The fact that included and referenced configuration files can be named differently is quite self-explanatory (why would we write pathes into configuration files otherwise?).
