Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please could you try:

sudo apt-get install mysql-common
sudo dpkg -P mysql-server-5.6
sudo dpkg -P mysql-common

If this works, then I need to fix mysql-server-5.6.postrm to test for
the configure-symlinks wrapper before calling it.
