@jstsch I'm not trying to start a specific discussion about customers or
software but merely was pointing out that service providers or hosters
would actually profit from both package branches staying available
instead dropping one of them after freeze. And as both EOL dates are
nearly the same it isn't like one of them is a support nightmare and
unsupported upstream in near future.

Of course customers on trusty can stay on that. But we'll alert precise
customers shortly about options for upgrades. And if xenial stays on
php7 those are most likely to become trusty boxes as well, what I
personally find a rather unsatisfactory solution but perhaps is
inevitable.
