Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

Could you please attach our /etc/samba/smb.conf file? The samba services
are failing to start, and it could be due to a misconfiguration in that
file.

You can also run the testparm(1) command yourself which will perform a
basic configuration check and highlight problems.
