[Ubuntu-SG] How to promote Ubuntu in Singapore?

Hi kolslorr,

Greetings and I hope this email finds you well.

I just want to reaffirm what Heidir has said, and that is, most of us (99%?)
are tied down by work or school, and organising events takes time and money.
To find time is difficult, to find money (sponsors) is even more difficult -
as there is not many companies out there in this economy that is willing to
pay for something which they do not own.

But does that mean that Ubuntu is bound to fail in South East Asia, or will
be slow in being adopted by the public?

It really depends... if we all proudly display our Ubuntu netbooks and PCs
(with Compiz etc.) to our friends and neighbours long enough, when their
Windows/Mac PCs crash/slows down/gets ridden with viruses etc. they are
likely to look at alternative OSes.

Not only that, if we have friends in the media
(journalists/magazines/MediaCorp etc.) who can support us in a media war (I
use this term in my business - media war) then there is a chance that we can
influence and in fact convince users to switch to Ubuntu.

I know I am going to get flamed for the next statement, but MOST distros,
including Ubuntu versions prior to Karmic, were just NOT ready to compete
with Windows and Mac in user-friendliness... but with the newborn KARMIC, so
much has improved that I believe that NOW there is a fighting chance for
Ubuntu to gain a significant foothold in the screens of PC users
nation-wide.

Like Heidir says, next year would be a good year for us all!

Best Regards,
