The flicker is caused by ui_indicator_update() removing the old
indicators before adding new ones, and the way liferea's
ui_tray_update() (which calls ui_indicator_update()) works means it
happens after updating every feed, I couldn't find a way to hook it
after the entire update is complete. I could work around this by first
adding new indicators and then removing old ones, but if, as you said,
it's better to remove the draw-attention hint, I'll do just that.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: liferea

Just as gwibber, pidgin, empathy and evolution, liferea should be held available in the indicator applet because it clearly belongs to the communication/news department as well. It would be nice to see the count of unread messages, to be able to activate the window or to start the application.
