This fails to build for me on raring am64:

gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -g -O2 -c libCW.c
  CCLD twclock
/usr/bin/ld: libCW.o: undefined reference to symbol 'pa_strerror@@PULSE_0'
/usr/bin/ld: note: 'pa_strerror@@PULSE_0' is defined in DSO /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpulse.so.0 so try adding it to the linker command line
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpulse.so.0: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [twclock] Error 1

make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
