You have been subscribed to a public bug by David Ward (dpward):
Before version 0.6.8, pivy had compatibility issues with Python 3.10,
which led to crashes when using FreeCAD. These were resolved upstream:
https://github.com/coin3d/pivy/pull/90
https://github.com/coin3d/pivy/pull/91
https://github.com/coin3d/pivy/pull/99
The issues are affecting Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy) and Ubuntu 22.10
(Kinetic). Applying the relevant patches from the PRs above fixes this.
I am attaching debdiffs for Jammy and Kinetic. The same changes are on a fork of the package source repo, on these branches:
https://code.launchpad.net/~dpward/ubuntu/+source/pivy/+git/pivy/+ref/ubuntu/jammy-devel
https://code.launchpad.net/~dpward/ubuntu/+source/pivy/+git/pivy/+ref/ubuntu/kinetic-devel
Please let me know if these need adjusting, or if they need to be
uploaded another way for review/merging.
